Community Involvement Associate – Navajo Nation  

 

Skeo Solutions is an employee-focused consulting firm providing innovative, collaborative and multidisciplinary solutions to complex and pressing issues in environmental stewardship, social equity and economic opportunity. 

Skeo Solutions is seeking a motivated, energetic and earnest person with at least a bachelors degree or higher to join their team on a full-time basis. Skeo expects candidates will support a wide range of activities that are likely to include but not be limited to: coordinating, managing and supporting multiple tribal community involvement projects, primarily on Navajo Nation; coordinating, managing and supporting other tribal community involvement projects; coordinating non-tribal community involvement projects; and supporting other Skeo work as needed. Projects will be undertaken as part of efforts by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to address contaminated sites. Candidates will be expected to develop and implement project plans, oversee project teams and ensure their effectiveness in the field. Related support may include:  

 

  • Scheduling, participating in and leading regular meetings (in person or virtual) with community members, and federal, tribal, state and local agencies.  

  • Taking notes during meetings and developing meeting summaries. 

  • Coordinating and providing logistics support for in-person meetings involving community members and agencies. 

  • Supporting interviews or interviewing community members and government officials either in person or virtually to inform technical assistance needs assessments, community involvement plans and related projects.  

  • Coordinating, developing and delivering related presentations and/or community outreach materials. 

  • Assisting with a wide-range of community informational outreach that may include developing and posting public notices in newspapers, radio programs or local television channels.  

  • Coordinating for translation assistance when needed. 

  • Drafting various reports or memos regarding work done in the field, including professionally laid out reports. 

 

Candidates should demonstrate they are detail-oriented and capable of gracefully and professionally handling high stress situations with a wide range of stakeholders. Candidates should have a calming and supportive disposition, be highly responsive and be capable of supporting several projects at one time. Ideal candidates for this mid-level position will have a high degree of familiarity or understanding of government programs associated with contaminated waste, ideally Superfund, in addition to high-quality writing and research skills. In addition, ideal candidates will have extensive experience working in tribal communities and/or a wide-range of communities, especially disadvantaged communities dealing with contaminated or hazardous waste sites. Candidates should be capable of working independently but also be team-oriented. Applicants should be proficient with Microsoft Office programs. Experience with GIS, graphic design, and Adobe Creative Suite software are a plus. Applicants should be able to multi-task, work effectively on multiple teams, maintain a positive attitude and have excellent communication skills. While the position is expected to require 40 hours a week, there are times where it may be necessary to work more than 40 hours per week under tight deadlines. Applicants must be willing to travel for 20 or more trips per year at various locations throughout the United States. Some locations may be remote. Field work may include extended days in the field.  

 

Required Qualifications: 

  • Bachelors degree or higher. 

  • Willing to travel for 20+ trips per year throughout the United States. Trips may require travel to remote locations and extended stays. Travel may be to remote locations and require consecutive days. 

  • Experience leading teams in support of disadvantaged communities dealing with contaminated or hazardous waste sites. 

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs. 

  • Legal US residency.  

Advantageous Qualifications: 

  • Ability to start, full time or part-time, within two weeks after hiring. 

  • Experience working on Navajo Nation. 

  • Located in the southwest, preferably on or near Navajo Nation. 

  • Familiarity or understanding of government programs associated with contaminated waste, ideally Superfund. 

  • Fluent in Navajo. 

  • Fluency or familiarity with other tribal languages. 

  • Experience working with other tribal communities. 

  • Experience with GIS, graphic design, and Adobe Creative Suite.  

  • Can work from a home office.
