Join Our Team as an Intern 

Skeo is a small consulting firm that provides innovative and collaborative solutions for our clients emphasizing environmental stewardship, social equity and economic opportunity. We are seeking one or more Interns (approximately 20-25 hours per week) to join our dynamic and talented team of professionals. 

As an Intern, being highly responsive, creative, detail-oriented, and capable of supporting multiple projects simultaneously will all be crucial. Resourcefulness, adaptability, and time-management skills will also be key parts of this role. This internship will primarily be office-based work (remote or in Charlottesville, Virginia office). There may be some opportunities for travel, depending on availability and opportunities provided by the project needs. Responsibilities will vary depending on the projects at the time of the internship but will provide opportunities to experience different aspects of environmental consulting, including writing and researching. You will have the opportunity to work on projects to gain knowledge of EPA’s Superfund program. You may have the opportunity to assist in the preparation of documents and materials for public meetings. You will gain insight into working as a consultant and working with government clients.

Example Projects: 

Site Use Inventory Research: Researching, counting, and inventorying reuse activities on Superfund sites. 

Economic Research: Researching and collecting data related to reuses on Superfund sites that have associated jobs or are income producing. 

Meeting Support: Scheduling, note-taking, identifying potential venues, developing PowerPoint presentations, checking in participants, and answering questions.  

Document Review: Assisting with making documents 508 compliant and reviewing completed documents for compliance and accuracy.  

General Tasking: General research, data entry, and writing tasks to inform the development of fact sheets, videos, story maps, or other communication materials.  

Skills and Qualifications 

Essential Skills and Qualifications: 

  • High school diploma and currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree or master’s degree in environmental science, communications, environmental policy or a related field. 

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite programs, such as Publisher, Teams, PowerPoint and Word. 

  • Ability to commit up to 20-25 hours per week to internship responsibilities while balancing school requirements. 

  • Strong communication skills, interpersonal skills, writing skills, and attention to detail. 

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment. 

  • High speed internet access, if remote. 

  • Ability to start in June 2024. 

Preferred Skills and Qualifications: 

  • Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite programs, such as InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop. 

  • Proficiency with PowerBI and/or Python. 

  • Experience with GIS technologies.

Internship applicants should be available to work up to 25 hours per week.
